Travel Footwear

Footwear for travel should be lightweight, comfortable, and durable. Travel footwear needs to be simple yet work well for a variety of activities. This article will give you a general outline of types of footwear that work well and what you will need to bring with you.

Lightweight running shoes

Lightweight running shoes or trail runners are perfect for travel. They are comfortable enough to walk in for long periods of time. They are lightweight, breathable, durable and work great for many activities such as walking, hiking, running, and general wear. These shoes dry quickly if wet and replace a few pairs of shoes when traveling, no need to bring hiking boots and walking shoes.

Choose a pair of running shoes without a waterproof membrane. Waterproof membranes will greatly decrease breath ability and dry times. Quick drying mesh shoes are more comfortable, less expensive and much more suitable for travel.

Sandals

Sandals or flip flops are also essential for most destinations. Sandals are comfortable, cool and lightweight. These shoes are great for relaxing, and eating a meal at a restaurant, and any water activities. Choose a pair of sandals if you plan to walk in these shoes often as they will be more comfortable for walking and hiking. Flip flops are the best choice if you plan to do most your walking in the trail runners.

Choose a sandal that will be comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Select a model that will be lightweight yet very durable. A broken sandal while traveling is just an unnecessary headache. Travel time should be spent having fun not replacing footwear. Make sure the sandal is compact enough to fit in a backpack and carried while not in use.

Comfort

Above all choose footwear that will be the most comfortable for you. Everyones feet and needs are different. If additional support is needed choose a higher top trail runner. If you wear custom insoles make sure they will work with your footwear. Before a trip test out your footwear to be sure it will be comfortable enough to walk around for long periods of time, if you plan to hike on your travels give the shoes a few test hikes. Just make sure comfort is the priority.
